Who We Are

Bob Daemmrich’s versatility and experience set him apart from other photographers.

Covering news events trained him how to be in the right place at the right time, how to make a great picture from a ho-hum or poorly lit event, how to capture the essence of the story in a single shot—in short, how to get the picture the client needs the first time around. Now he uses this experience for corporate and editorial clients as well as for news outlets.

It’s hard to pigeonhole Bob’s style and specialties, because he still practices the versatility he honed as a newspaper staffer: Summer Olympics, presidential campaigns, studio and location portraits, public relations campaigns, magazine layouts, and more. His stock photo files, which suit the needs of textbook and corporate photo editors, are equally diverse.

His interest in photography began when he was growing up in Wisconsin. His career in photography began when he started working nights and weekends at the Wisconsin State Journal in Madison while attending the University of Wisconsin. His first job after graduating from UW in 1976 was at the College Station (Texas) Eagle, where he won his first awards for the Texas A&M Bonfire. In 1978, he joined the photo staff at the Austin American Statesman. In 1985 he went out on his own, where he proudly remains today.

Bob’s office and studio are in an historic building in the heart of downtown Austin, two blocks from the state Capitol and the Governor’s Mansion. The location is no accident: Bob has covered Texas politics extensively since the early 1980’s, so he needs to be close to the action.

Like any good photographer, Bob is usually out of the office shooting. That’s when his accomplished staff keeps things rolling.
