Using Stock

We have more than 400,000 film images (mostly 35mm) and a growing number of digital images on file at the studio, categorized by subject. Bob adds fresh images to the files constantly. Many of the pictures feature ethnic minorities in all sorts of situations, from performing in traditional costumes at folk festivals to brushing their teeth at home.

We also have an office staff to search the files for the images you need, so that when Bob is out shooting, your requests can be accommodated. Depending on the nature of your request, you can receive slides the next day, via registered carrier (FedEx, UPS, etc.), or view digital images, via email or a web site, the same day as your request or the day following.

Bob is one of the country’s top textbook photographers. Photo editors at McGraw-Hill, Pearson, Houghton Mifflin, Harcourt, and others use his work because his signature style is real-life, multiethnic images that are well lit, uncluttered, and look as though the photographer wasn’t even there. His specific niche is photographing multiethnic, model-released images of youth, adults, and the elderly (especially Hispanic and handicapped people). See the “stock list” for more details and subjects in our stock files.

Because of Bob’s 15-plus years of working with textbooks, he and his staff know the publishing process. We know how photo editors and researchers work, and what they need. That means we’re easy to work with. We can (usually) accommodate your tight deadlines. We know that when you ask for 10-year-olds in class, you can’t use 6-year-olds in class. And we understand the importance of images that show ethnic diversity.

If you’re stuck with a spec that’s too specific to be met with file images, call us to discuss an assignment. You can trust Bob to provide photos that provide exactly what you need in ethnicities, location, ages, and other particulars—no art director or reshoots needed.

Our clients are consistently pleased with our pricing as well as our creative work. We work closely with you to stay within your budget and still provide you with the highest quality of work that Bob is known for producing.

Fees:
Textbook use/license—Prices are generally based on picture size (1/4 page? Full page?), geographic distribution (United States only? World?), language rights requested (English only? 10% Spanish?), and size of print run. Additional fees are charged for revisions, CD-ROMS, ancillaries, intranet-extranet versions, and press runs over 40,000. Reuses are discounted from the original base price. Bulk discounts are available and are negotiable depending on your needs.

Advertising use—Prices are generally based on the image’s uniqueness, picture size and placement, print run, distribution, and length of use.

Model Acquisition and Releases
We “street scout” for models who work well for real-life situations. We also use our contacts with Austin schools to photograph students in class and in other school situations.

Many of our images are model-released. Our models have signed releases only for authorized use. Unauthorized use means the violator is taking on the liability of this over and above the costs of violating copyright law.
